MELITOPOL, November 5. /TASS/. The Kiev regime’s attempt to seize the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), thwarted by Russian troops, posed a threat not only to the facility but also to the development of the global nuclear industry, ZNPP communications director Yevgeniya Yashina told TASS.
“The Kiev regime’s reckless behavior (the attempt to seize the ZNPP – TASS) poses a threat not only to the plant itself, but also to the development of the entire global nuclear industry,” Yashina said.
The Zaporozhye NPP is well-protected, she added. The plant’s personnel and the Russian army are doing everything they can to ensure its safety. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors at the Zaporozhye NPP will be briefed on the Kiev regime’s attempt to seize the plant during an operation codenamed “Short Circuit,” Yashina noted.
The plant’s highly qualified personnel ensure the full safety of the ZNPP’s operation. Currently, the plant is operating in its previous mode, with all six units in a “cold shutdown” state.
“No violations of safety limits or conditions have been detected. The radiation levels at the site and in the monitored area remain at natural background levels. The plant’s personnel continue to carry out their routine duties in accordance with the instructions and regulations,” Yashina said.
Lieutenant-General Igor Kirillov, head of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces, earlier stated that the Russian army had prevented the Ukrainian military from seizing the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant in an operation codenamed “Short Circuit,” which involved multiple rocket launchers (MLRS) and attack drones. The attempt followed a failed effort to seize the Kursk NPP. Preemptive actions by Russian military units thwarted the Ukrainian plan. Kirillov recalled that similar attempts had already been made in 2022, when Ukraine’s main intelligence directorate commandos and foreign mercenaries tried to cross the Kakhovka reservoir with the aim of creating a bridgehead to seize the ZNPP.
